Building what’s next: Chris Schuld returns to lead Inspection engineering

The best software is never finished. It’s built, tested, learned from, and rebuilt, by people who care deeply about the problem they’re solving.

Chris Schuld is that kind of builder.

A co-founder of Inspection Support Network (ISN) and one of the original engineers behind the inspection software platform that Palmtech is part of, Chris is returning as Director of Engineering, Inspection. He’ll lead engineering across Palmtech, ISN, Home Inspector Pro, America’s Call Center, Guardian Inspection Payments, and Inspector Services Group.

A builder with unfinished business

Chris wrote much of the original ISN software himself. That’s not a metaphor — he sat down and coded the foundation that the inspection software ecosystem is still built on today. When he left Porch in 2021, he went on to build startups, where he spent years going deep on how artificial intelligence can be applied to make products meaningfully better for the businesses and people using them. He then moved on to oversee U.S. engineering at Wix.com, working at global scale and managing large teams.

Now he’s back because he sees what’s possible, and he wants to build it.

Why Palmtech customers should care

Palmtech was built around a specific promise: professional, easy-to-use reporting software at a price that works for inspectors at every stage of their career. That promise doesn’t change; what changes is the speed and ambition with which we build on it.

The inspection industry is at an inflection point, as AI has transitioned from experimental to practical. The question is no longer whether AI belongs in inspection software; it’s who will build those capabilities thoughtfully, and at the pace inspectors need.

Palmtech already includes AI comment suggestions and image defect detection. Those tools save real time on real inspections. But they’re a just starting point, not a ceiling. Chris’s return brings both the engineering leadership and the AI depth to push well beyond where we are today.

“Chris built the foundation of ISN, and now he’s coming back with the experience and vision to build what comes next for our inspection ecosystem,” said Adam Long, General Manager, Inspection at Porch Group. “His combination of deep inspection industry knowledge and modern AI expertise makes him exactly the right person to lead our engineering teams at this moment.”

The opportunity in front of us

Here’s what the inspection industry looks like at this point in time: Inspectors are running sophisticated businesses, with clients that have higher expectations than ever, and the technology available to meet those expectations has never been more powerful. The gap between what’s possible and what currently exists in inspection software is real. That’s the opportunity.

For Palmtech users, the takeaway is that the product roadmap is going to be ambitious. The pace of innovation is going to increase. And the people making those decisions understand, at a fundamental level, what inspectors actually need.

The best version of Palmtech is still being built. And we’re glad Chris is back to help build it.
